LAS VEGAS, NV -- At NAB 2016, Autodesk announced the latest versions of its flexible, subscription-based visual effects, post and 3D animation software, including Autodesk Flame Family 2017, Maya 2016 extension 2 and 3ds Max 2017. Designed to empower creatives, each release includes an array of new features and enhancements to help studios and artists manage modern workflow demands.




Autodesk Maya 2016 Extension 2




Building on a strong Maya 2016 release, extension 2 adds new capabilities for creating 3D motion graphics, a new rendering workflow and tools for artists that allow them to create and animate characters faster and easier than ever.


Mayatomr is Maya's plugin for mental ray. This didn't make sense to me since Mental ray is a rendering program and GoZ is a mesh transfer function. But oh well. I went to the plugins menu to enable mayatomr and it wasn't showing up like it normally does. I installed it from the Autodesk website. -2016-extension-2-service-pack-1.html


I went to Maya's plugin window and mayatomr was still not showing up. I tried it with Maya2014 and it worked just fine. And the mayamtomr plugin wasn't listed there either. So why is 2016.5 rejecting it?


The upgraded UV editing in Maya 2016 extension 2 extends to a new brush-based symmetrize UV tool for mirroring UVs, multi-object support for unfold, and changes to the layout tool supporting the layout of hundreds of shells. The auto-seam tool now creates an instant selection with a one click to help place new UV texture seams faster.


Maya 2017 includes a full set of 3D tools for creating motion graphics. The MASH procedural toolset, first introduced in Maya 2016 extension 2, has been improved with new nodes and new capabilities that allow designers to quickly create unique animations and motion effects. Maya 2017 also features a more intuitive UI and improvements to 3D text tools that enable artists to work faster.
